Found on Epic Win FTW – The Sparklines of Excel 2010 are cool, but this is an Epic Win indeed. Pretty amazing, and another shining example of how Excel is used for lots of purposes, some of them probably never considered by Microsoft :)

Hey Ross,
I thought there was no way this was a real game, until I discovered that there were people actually developing games on Excel. Not sure if this is the source of the picture, but it seems there IS a Super Mario running on Excel. Goes to show that really, people will use Excel for anything...

Hi,
I think that's a picture because there are sheets called 1 2 and 3, if I'd coded up Super Mario in excel I figured I change the defult sheet names!!...
That game you linked to is written is flash I think so that's cheating!!!
The 2 best ones I've seen are PacMan , and Space Invaders, both written for the grid - amazing stuff!!!

I think you are correct that the picture is not a functioning game, and likely not from the same origin as the flash game (which IS cheating). Now writing Mario in VBA, mapping the display to the color of cells, that would be a challenge. I am almost tempted to try out writing a Pong game just to see how painful that would be Smile Do you have links to the 2 games you mention?

The space invaders one is on that site:

The version of pac-man on there is flash, but I'm sure I saw a grid version, maybe not!
